Cosmoderm/ Cosmoplast
Cosmoderm, also known as Cosmoplast, is one of the only FDA approved dermal fillers that contains a human collagen derivative, designed to replenish the skin’s collagen layer while improving lines and wrinkles. The human collagen ingredient is purified from natural human dermal tissue under controlled laboratory conditions to produce dermal filler that requires no pre-treatment skin test and provides immediate results in just one visit. Cosmoderm is also formulated to contain the ingredient lidocaine which is usually injected during dental surgery as a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. The product is injected just below the surface of the skin, filling in lines, wrinkles and acne scars offering a temporary leveling to smooth the skin. Both Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast report having the least potential of any filler product for post-injection swelling.
Cosmoderm is suitable for filling worry lines on the forehead and frown lines between the eyebrows along with adding definition to the border of the lip area and smoothing vertical lip lines. Since the amount of injected collagen gradually diminishes after the initial treatment and collagen injection results rarely last more than four months, to maintain the look of a Cosmoderm treatment, top off injections are usually required three times a year. Once the course of treatments cease the collagen will be gradually absorbed into the body safely and the facial contours will return to the original pre-treatment condition. Collagen fillers are being chosen less often since the introduction of safe, longer lasting fillers such as Juvederm and Radiesse.
