Hylaform
Hylaform also consists of the popular hyaluronic acid gel but is derived from an avian (bird) source that is highly purified. As hyaluronic acid has an immediate affinity with the skin, the product is broken down effectively and absorbed into the body over a period of months without trace. Hylaform is ideal for smoothing moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles including lines between the eyebrows and expression lines from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth. The clear, colorless gel is injected into the skin in very small amounts to add volume and has proven most effective when combined with collagen as the collagen creates structure with the Hylaform providing the volume.
Hylaform is also available in a formula named Fineline that is ideal for treating superficial wrinkles and lines. All Hylaform products provide hydration and elasticity to the skin. Hylaform Plus formula can be utilized for deeper facial folds and to add volume to the lip area. Hylaform is also effective when utilized for drooping eyebrows providing lift and support and creating a natural arch look to the area that is popular among women. The effects of Hylaform vary from individual to individual. The filling effects are immediate.
No skin test is required due to hyaluronic acid occurring naturally in the body. Patients however may need to be screened for allergic reactions to bird proteins, as the hyaluronic acid ingredient used in Hylaform is derived from purified rooster combs. For this reason, this filler is not used very much anymore, as there are other hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane and Juvederm that do not pose this potential problem. Duration of the Hylaform effect can vary between six and nine months. An additional treatment will then be required to maintain the effects of the procedure.
